CorePlus Credit Union Introduces EV Charging Stations at East Lyme Branch
NORWICH, CT — CorePlus Credit Union has installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its East Lyme branch, providing a convenient and environmentally friendly service to all visitors.
The Level 2 charging stations, each capable of serving one battery electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, will be open to the public and free to all CorePlus Credit Union members.
“We are the first financial institution in Southeastern Connecticut to install EV charging stations,” said Ray Currier, President and CEO of CorePlus Credit Union. “These stations represent CorePlus Credit Union’s commitment to lowering the carbon footprint and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Connecticut. CorePlus is looking into the possibility of installing EV charging stations at additional locations as well.”
Connecticut has experienced strong growth in EV ownership in recent years, according to data from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). There were 44,313 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles registered in the state at the end of 2023, compared to just 4,878 at the end of 2016.
Connecticut has more than 360 public EV charging stations. DEEP has been encouraging the installation of EV charging stations at homes, workplaces, and transportation hubs to help grow Connecticut’s charging infrastructure.
