Internship at CorePlus Federal Credit Union

Norwich- CT For the third year in a row CorePlus Federal Credit Union continues its internship program, new interns = new challenges. CorePlus Federal Credit Union has worked with NFA to find interns of diverse backgrounds to work in the 7 branches of CorePlus. This year there are 7 interns working at CorePlus Federal Credit Union. "Our new interns are more challenging than either of the other two classes," stated Ray Hasson, CorePlus coordinator for the Summer Intern Program. "Not challenging because they’re difficult but challenging us. They see things with new eyes, a different perspective, and aren’t afraid to make suggestions."

Komal Rajpura, Graduated from NFA class of 2008 and is working in the Waterford branch. Komal will be attending Uconn in the fall to study medicine. She wanted to do in the internship because, "felt it would be a good experience, I was not very knowledgeable of finances and wanted to build confidence." Komal was born in India and came to the U.S about 4 years ago, English is her second language.

Brenda Flores is working in the support department; and will graduate from NFA class of 2009. Brenda is Mexican and was born in the Bronx NY; she has only spoken English for 4 years. Brenda wants to attend ECSU and study business and accounting. Brenda wanted to do the internship because, "banking involves what I want to go to college for."

Simon Ly, works in Groton as a teller and finds the job stressful at times, but feels it will give him experience for the future. Simon is a junior and will be graduating in 2010. Simon hopes to attend NYU and study marketing or business. "Simon Ly is just 15 years old, one of the youngest interns we’ve had but to the members he’s accepted as a regular addition to the staff." Hasson added.

Matthew Jones, works at Norwich Ave as a teller, and will graduate from NFA in 2009. Matthew plans to go to school to be a pilot. So far Matt feels that the job is, "lots of fun!" Matt is African American, his mom is from Barbados.

Jonathan Justiniano, graduated from NFA and will be attending Johnson and Whales for entrepreneurship. Jonathan wanted to work here to "grow professionally" He really enjoys working in the back office support department. Jonathan is Puerto Rican and Cape Verdean.

Cheyenne Campbell, works as a teller in the Main Office and will be graduating in 2009; Cheyenne wants to attend the University of New Haven and study Criminal Justice. "At first I was scared and discouraged because balancing was tough at times but now I have the hang of it and I love the job." Cheyenne is African American, and Native American.

Daniel Fernandez, works as a teller in the Waterford Office. Daniel graduated from NFA and will attend Quinnebaug Community College to study music theory and teaching. "So far the job is fun and I have no complaints". He is European and Philippino and was born in Nevada.

"We feel this is a wonderful learning experience for all involved for the employees of CorePlus the students and our members of the credit union. CorePlus has gained many new wonderful full time and part-time employees from this internship program over the past couple years" said Warren P. Scholl President and CEO. "We hope it continues for many years"

At the graduation the students were given certificates and some CorePlus memorabilia. Mr. Scholl also gave each student a pedometer and said, "Hopefully as you walk through life you will remember your experience and friends you have made here at CorePlus!"
